Jay Shepley

Ubuntu Studio combines nearly two decades of experience in visual storytelling, communications, and production. Founder Jay Shepley began his career working in film and television, contributing to major studio films, documentaries, broadcast productions, and live events before transitioning into nonprofit communications leadership.
For more than a decade, Jay has led communications, marketing, and storytelling efforts for local and national nonprofit organizations, producing campaigns, documentaries, interviews, and multimedia content designed to move people to action. That experience shapes every project. Great visuals are important, but understanding audience, message, and purpose is what turns content into something memorable.
Whether working with an entrepreneur, a growing business, or a national organization, the goal is simple: create strong visual work and storytelling that is authentic and gets results.

Every project starts with a conversation. You have a vision. My role is to help shape it, refine it, and bring it to life through photography and film.
My creative perspective was sharpened through work on major motion pictures, television, and independent films, including Body of Lies, Safe House, Salt, Big Love, Food, Inc., and the Transformers franchise, while my roots as a photographer were shaped by fine art and documentary photography, earning back-to-back recognition in the DCist Exposed competition in 2010 and 2011.
Today, I bring those experiences to every client engagement. I consult and help with your vision on story, audience, and impact. My process is grounded in conversation, collaboration, and Ubuntu: the belief that meaningful work is built through human connection.
Whether you're launching a brand, leading an organization, or sharing a personal story, the goal is the same: create work that is authentic, moves people, and delivers the results you want.
